1. Introduction
Welcome to Famorama. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This privacy policy will inform you about how we look after your personal data when you visit our website and use our family management platform, and tell you about your privacy rights and how the law protects you.
2. Information We Collect
We collect and process the following types of information:
- Account Information: Name, email address, and password when you create an account
- Family Information: Family member names, relationships, and profiles you create
- Calendar Data: Events, appointments, and schedules you add to your family calendar
- Meal Planning Data: Meal plans, recipes, dietary preferences, and shopping lists
- Location Data: When you enable a Guardian location feature, we collect your device's precise location, including in the background. See Section 3 for details. These features are off by default
- Usage Data: Information about how you use our platform, including features accessed and interactions
- Payment Information: Billing details and subscriptions are processed securely by our third-party payment providers. Web and Android purchases are handled by Stripe; iOS purchases are handled through Apple In-App Purchases, managed via RevenueCat. We do not store your full credit card information on our servers. All payment processing complies with industry security standards (including PCI-DSS), and we only retain minimal data (such as the last four digits of your card) for subscription management purposes
3. Location Information and Guardian Location Sharing
Famorama's Guardian features include optional location capabilities. We only collect location data when you — or, for a family member, a parent or guardian — turn a location feature on. These features are off by default.
- What we collect: With your permission, the Famorama mobile app collects your device's precise GPS location. Depending on the feature you enable, this includes collection in the background — while the app is closed or not in use — so the feature can work continuously:
- Live location sharing (Family Map): while enabled, your device periodically reports its position so your family members can see where you currently are on your family's private map
- Location history: a trail of your recent locations is stored for the retention period configured for your family (see Section 9, Data Retention)
- Geofencing alerts: your device detects when you arrive at or leave saved places (such as home or school) so your family can be notified
- Consent: before any location collection begins, the app shows an in-app disclosure explaining that your location is collected (including in the background) and shared with your family, and asks for your consent. Collection is also gated by your device's operating-system location permission, which you control and can change at any time in your device settings
- Who can see it: your location is shared only with members of your own family within Famorama. We do not sell location data and do not share it with advertisers or data brokers
- Your control: location sharing is off by default and can be turned off at any time — by you, or by a parent or guardian who manages your family. Turning it off stops new location collection and removes you from the live family map
4. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Provide and maintain our family management services
- Enable collaboration and sharing within your family group
- Provide the Guardian location features you choose to enable — showing family members' current position on the family map, storing location history, and sending arrival and departure alerts
- Process your subscription payments
- Send you important updates about your account and our services
- Improve and personalize your experience on our platform
- Provide customer support and respond to your inquiries
- Analyze usage patterns to enhance our features and services
5. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information with:
- Family Members: Information you choose to share within your family group is accessible to other family members. This includes your live and historical location when you have a Guardian location feature enabled. Location is never shared outside your family, with advertisers, or with data brokers
- Service Providers: Third-party companies that help us operate our platform (e.g., hosting, payment processing, email delivery)
- Legal Requirements: When required by law or to protect our rights and safety
6. Use of Artificial Intelligence Services
Famorama uses OpenAI's AI services to power features such as meal planning, recipe generation, and nutrition analysis. When you use these features, relevant data (such as dietary preferences, meal history, and family information) may be temporarily sent to OpenAI for processing. This data is used solely to provide the requested AI-generated content and is not stored by OpenAI or used for training their models without your consent.
We do not share personally identifiable information with OpenAI unless necessary for the feature. AI features are enabled based on server configuration. 7. Data Security
We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. This includes:
- Encryption of data in transit and at rest
- Regular security assessments and updates
- Strict access controls and authentication requirements
- Secure payment processing through industry-standard providers
8. Your Privacy Rights
You have the right to:
- Access your personal data
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete data
- Delete your account and associated data
- Turn off location sharing at any time and request deletion of your location history
- Export your data in a portable format
- Opt-out of marketing communications
- Object to processing of your personal data
9. Data Retention
We retain your personal data only for as long as necessary to provide our services and fulfill the purposes outlined in this privacy policy. When you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal data, except where we are required to retain it for legal or regulatory purposes.
Location data: your location history is retained only for the retention period configured for your family, after which it is automatically deleted. Your latest shared position is replaced as new locations arrive and is cleared when you turn off location sharing or delete your account.
10. Children's Privacy
Our service is intended for use by families, and parents or guardians are responsible for managing their family's account and adding family members. We collect different levels of information based on age groups:
- Children ages 0-10: We collect only their name and calendar appointments added by parents/guardians. Children in this age group do not have access to the application and cannot create accounts
- Children ages 11-15: We collect their name, calendar appointments, and account credentials that allow them to log into the application. Parents/guardians create and manage these accounts on behalf of their children
- Ages 16+: Users in this age group have full access to create and manage their own accounts and family information
All information for children under 16 is collected with parental consent through the family account managed by a parent or guardian. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children without appropriate parental involvement.
Children's location: a child's location is only collected when a parent or guardian enables a location feature for that child, and only for children who have a device with the Famorama app (generally ages 11 and up). Before any collection begins, the in-app disclosure is shown on the child's own device. A parent or guardian can disable location sharing for a child at any time. We collect children's location only with parental involvement and consent through the family account.
11. Cookies and Tracking
We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to enhance your experience, maintain your session, and analyze usage patterns. You can control cookie settings through your browser preferences.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
